Windows Live Sync Beta shows no synced folders – Solution
Windows Live Sync Beta Users,
In preparation for the upcoming release, an upgrade to our sync service may be causing Windows Live Sync Beta to mistakenly report to you that your devices and folders are no longer syncing. Please rest assured that your folders and devices are indeed still syncing and that just the user interface is not updating properly. You can confirm that your folders are syncing properly at the web site:http://devices.live.com/.
We will be addressing this issue in the upcoming client release (http://windowsteamblog.com/windows_live/b/windowslive/archive/2010/08/27/windows-live-sync-to-be-named-windows-live-mesh.aspx). Thank you for using the Beta and helping us improve Windows Live products.
If you don’t want to wait for the update, you can restore proper functionality to the Sync user interface by completing the following steps:
Windows Live Sync Beta for Windows:
1. Close Windows Live Sync Beta by right-clicking on the Sync icon in the notification area (located at the far right of the Windows taskbar by default), and then selecting ‘Exit’
· More on the notification area: (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Change-how-icons-appear-in-the-notification-area)
2. Open Windows Explorer (Press the Windows key and the ‘E’ key at the same time)
3. Copy or type the path on the following line into Explorer’s address bar and press ‘Enter’
%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows Live Mesh
· More on using Explorer’s address bar: (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Navigate-using-the-address-bar)
4. You should see a ‘DB’ folder among some other folders and files
5. Rename the ‘DB’ folder to ‘DB-old’
· More on renaming folders and files: (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Rename-a-file)
6. Restart Windows Live Sync Beta
Windows Live Sync Beta for OS X:
- Close Windows Live Sync beta by clicking the Sync icon in the Menu Bar, and then selecting ‘Quit Windows Live Sync’
- In Finder, navigate to ‘<your username>/Library/Application Support/WLSync/’ and rename the ‘DB’ folder to ‘DB-old’
- Restart Windows Live Sync Beta
We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience. Thank you!
